The Textual Analysis of Dawn of the Dead

Dawn of the Dead

In thriller opening title sequences they use key elements to attract the audience and create moods such as suspense in many different ways when introducing the film. The film editors do this by the different use of camera angles/shots, editing, sound, mise en scene and acting portrayed throughout the opening title sequence.

In the Dawn of the Dead opening title sequence the text is written in the colour red. The red could symbolize blood, anger or danger, which would be later on a key colour in the movie. The text flows away of the page as if it were blood trickling falling. Each time the image changes on the OTS it is blurred to create a fuzzy image to create he suspense. The pictures are also either very close up or a long shot and change vey sharply to create that edgy feeling.

The sounds in the OTS are screams, which make the audince enganged and intrigued as to who the screams are coming from and why that person is screaming in the first place. By having the screams it also gives the audience a clear idea as to what genre the movie is going to be, as screaming is often related to danger. The voice over in the scene could also
make the audience feel like there is somebody watching over what is happening in the OTS.

  1. I think it would help you to create subheadings of camera, mise en scene, editing and sound to be sure you cover each of these - at the moment you haven't covered all of these items - please rectify.
Please make sure you read what you write - you nearly write well, but not quite as a consequence of not reading through.
